Teal Dove Bulky Baby Blanket

Today I want to share with you a wonderful, thick, warm and cuddly baby blanket I recently completed.  It is perfect for a little boy with shades of teal, white and gray.  It is 37x37 inches.

The yarn used was Bernat Baby Blanket in the Little Teal Dove color which I believe has since been discontinued.  The yarn is 100% polyester making is machine washable and dryable; perfect for life with kids!  It was knit with the Playful Knit Blanket pattern by Marilyn Coleman as found on the Red Heart yarn website.

This blanket would make a perfect gift for any mother-to-be.  It is available for purchase in my Etsy shop.

Knit Hats

What do you make for Christmas for two toddlers who live overseas and don't have much room in their luggage to take presents home with them?

Hats of course!  They are small & fit in the suitcase, or, if the suitcase is full, put it on their head. 

Here are two hats that I knit for my nephews who live in Denmark.  They are both knit from the Heel Stitch Hat pattern by Purl Soho.

 

This hat is for my 9-month old nephew, Elvis.  It was knit using Red Heart Soft Prints yarn in Waterscape on US-8 size circular and doublepoint needles.  I used the baby size on the pattern.

The second hat is for my two-year old nephew, Jeremiah.  It was knit using of  Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn! in High Sierra Stripe on US-8 size circular and doublepoint needles.  I used the toddler size on the pattern.

On both hats, I added a pom pom which I purchased from Hobby Lobby.  Two Christmas gifts done and they only took a couple of days each to make.

 

Knit Baby Blanket

In the past year, I have been doing much more knitting than paper crafting.  It's more portable - I can throw it in my bag & take it anywhere which is a bonus as I always seem to be "on the go".  

I also moved, so a lot of my paper crafting supplies are still in boxes as that doesn't seem to be high on the priority list of unpacking.  

I'm going to be posting some of my "kreations" over the next few days.  I didn't keep good notes (or if I did, I've misplaced them in the move), so I may not have a lot of the details for you.  I wanted to at least show you what I've been up to & that I'm still around. Lol!

First up today is a blanket I made for my cousin's new daughter, Regan, over the summer.  It was knit with Bernat Baby Blanket yarn in the Peachy color.  The yarn is polyester.  It is thick & squishy - perfect for snuggling under or lying on top of on the floor.

And the colors are so bright!!  It is such a unique combination of orange, pink & fuchsia.  It's just beautiful!  

The knit pattern I used was the Corner to Corner Seed Stitch Blanket which was on the skein of yarn.  I used US 11 circular needles to knit and the blanket was knit on the diagonal.

Baby Blanket for Beautiful Cooper

My daughter's dance teacher recently had a beautiful baby boy.  My daughter adores her teacher (she has taken classes off and on from her for 8 years), so I decided to make this blanket for her as a gift.  Luckily she knew very early that she was expecting a boy, but I had purchased the same yarn in pinks just in case I found out otherwise.

The photo above is actually the blanket folded into fourths.  The darker border continues around all four edges of the blanket.  The photo below shows some of the pattern detail.

Baby Blanket with some Sparkle

I wanted to share with everyone a baby blanket that I recently completed.  This blanket was knit for my cousin's new daughter, and, at her request, NO PINK.  This is her second daughter, and she wanted to know which "special momentos" from childhood belonged to which daughter and everything from her firstborn was pink.

This blanket was actually quite quick to knit as it was knit holding two strands of yarn together.  I used a sparkly white and sparkly lavender.  It really turned out quite beautiful.  If you look closely in the picture below, you can see some of the shimmer in the blanket.

Major Changes

I can't believe it has been so long since my last post. Since that time, I have had some major life changes. We decided to move back to our hometown, closer to family, and life has been completely hectic. Of course, it didn't help that we made this decision with less than a month left before school started, so we were scrambling to get school changes made, etc. Because it was such a last minute decision, we decided to let the kids keep some of their extra-curricular activities to help ease the transition, but that means driving nearly an hour each direction for the activities several times a week.

The good news has been that the kids love their new schools, we're closer to family and small-town life has been a good "life experience" for the kids. The downside is that all the driving for extra-curriculars leaves me little time for scrapbooking, family dinners or general "down-time". The crafting I do right now has to be portable, so I've been knitting quite a lot.

I'm still "repping" Close To My Heart, but I think I'm my own best customer right now. No time for workshops, clubs or gatherings.

Anyway, I have been creating, and I plan to take some time to post what I've been working on in the last few months. I'm going to start with the most recent creation that I gave away this week. A co-worker's wife had a baby early this week, so I gave this blanket to them.

Here's the card. It came from my "stash". If I remember correctly, I made it from a kit I got from the Paper Wishes catalog.

Baby Gift

My husband's co-worker's wife (got that?) just had a baby very early this morning.  It has been a rough pregnancy for her, so we are all glad both mom and Kodie Miracle are doing well.  I made a card and gift to welcome the new little one.

This is a 5x7 card.  The front is covered in pink cardstock by Paper Reflections.  The patterned paper is from The Glitter Stack by DCWV and is cut at 4-1/4x6-1/4".  The white paper is from DCWV's The Glitter Cardstock Stack and is cut at 2x7".  The letters are cut using the Hannah Montana Cricut cartridge at 1-1/4" on cocoa cardstock by Close To My Heart.  The ribbon is 3/8" cocoa grosgrain by Close To My Heart.  All the cardstock edges are inked with Close To My Heart's cocoa inkpad.  Finally, I accented the letters with cinnamon stickles by Ranger.

On the inside, I put a piece of 1x7" cocoa cardstock at the bottom of the card.  I cut the pink cardstock at 5x7 and then punched the bottom with a Martha Stewart border punch.  The sentiment is a Close To My Heart stamp from the Baby Miracles set.

Finally, here is the gift.  I had made this many months ago, for no one in particular at that time.  When we found out they were having a girl, I knew this would be the perfect gift.  It is knit on the diagonal with a self-striping yarn by Bernat called Baby Coordinates Sweet Stripes.

Another Scarf....

Here is the scarf I just finished; it will be going up on my Etsy site for sale (how many scarves can my family actually use???).  I had purchased two skeins of eyelash yarn - one lime and the other olive - for a craft project with my Girl Scout troop over the summer.  Once I got them home and tried them, neither worked for the project.  Here I was, stuck with two skeins of yarn that I had only used about 6 inches from. 

Recently I ran across the skeins again.  I decided to try knitting the two together, because I didn't like the individual color of either.  I was pleasantly surprised when the scarf turned out so pretty.  These colors that looked so awful alone, and I would never have normally put together, ended up looking great together.  The photo doesn't do it justice - there is so much depth to the color.  It is a very thick, plush scarf since it was knit with two strands of eyelash yarn.

Scarves

Before Christmas, I knitted about 15 scarves for gifts.  I was getting so fast that I could whip out a scarf in a few evenings.  All of the scarves I made for gifts this past Christmas were made with eyelash yarn, but I made about every color you could imagine.  Some were sparkly and others were not. 

I made three of the Ohio State scarves below - one for my daughter, one for my sister-in-law who works for OSU, and one for my mom who was preparing to head to the Rose Bowl.  I guess the only person that got left out was me, but that seems to always be the case - moms always take care of everyone else first.  I also made my daughter a similar scarf that was sparkly blue and orange (our high school's colors) for her to wear at my son's sporting events.
