Need Some Help, Please

I am in need of some help...

At my son's wrestling tournament yesterday, one of his fellow wrestlers had a REALLY rough day. He got poked in the eye during his first match, and then thought he broke his jaw during the same match. Bless his heart, he wanted to continue wrestling the rest of his matches (his Dad's an EMT & present, so who were we to judge?). As the day went on, he continued to become more pale and complain of the pain in his face.

During his 4th match of the day, the coach "threw in the towel" and wouldn't let him continue. His parents wanted to leave right then to get him checked, but he convinced them to let him stay for his final match to "take a forfeit", so the team would get the points (no actual wrestling involved).

He ended up 4-1 on the day - his only loss being the match his coach made him quit. He went to the local ER to get checked and then was referred to the closest Children's Hospital. He does have a broken jaw & a scratched cornea (from the poke in the eye). They don't think they will have to wire his mouth shut, because it was a clean break & open fracture. They are giving him massive antibiotics as well as antibiotic eye drops. Now they are just waiting to see the specialist to see what he says.

Now, my question...
What can I make as a "get well soon" kind of gift. I know when my son had a really rough tournament, I made him a "That Sucks" sucker bouquet. My guess is that he won't be able to eat anything like a sucker even if his mouth isn't wired shut. He is so bummed that his season might be over.

Do any of you creative lurkers have any suggestions? Any help or ideas to help "springboard" my creative juices would be much appreciated.

Awww, poor kid! He really has a strong spirit though -- good for him, though heart-wrenching to watch, I'm sure. You're sweet to want to make him something. Many moons ago, I had surgery on my upper and lower jaws and was wired shut for 5 weeks. I think what I would appreciate if (GOD FORBID) I was in that condition again would be JUICE BOXES (with the little straws attached), and CHAPSTICK. In terms of what you could make him, you can get sports bottles where the insert comes out and you can make him something on the insert pertaining to school or wrestling. Just ideas...

Aww poor kid. That's so sweet of you to want to cheer him up with a gift. I don't have any suggestions (sorry) but I know there are some great wrestling cuts on the Sports Mania Cricut cartridge. If you don't have it and want some cuts just let me know, I'd be happy to send them to you.

Hugs,
Kristina

Could you make a That Sucks bouquet but use wrestling related cuts and just colorful straws instead of suckers? Just an idea that came to mind as I was reading your post. Thanks for the well wishes on the new computer it is up and running and seems to be working well just need to get some software updated.

Thats one tough cookie! - Maybe a cookie bouquet :) Each individually wrapped 'soft' cookies on a lolli stick. Or a gift card bouquet with little notes and gift cards. Ie... Movie certs, Itunes certs etc. Not huge amounts but little amounts to let you know your thinking of him. Other than that, maybe just give him a hug and tell him your proud of him.

Oh gosh! Well, a cute card might be a good start - you could make it kind of funny and upbeat - sort of like your that sucks sucker idea. I don't know how much money you want to spend, but maybe a small gift card for a movie rental place or something would be a nice gesture since traditional food gifts may not be a good selection not knowing what he can eat. You could keep it light-hearted also and maybe make him some kind of certificate about "not throwing in the towel" or something along those lines. I don't have any WOW kind of ideas off the top of my head, but maybe one of these will get you thinking in the right direction. Good luck!

How about his favorite ice cream. That would be an easy treat for him to eat. I hope he heals quickly!
